Pharmacy schools are plenty and the internet can help
you narrow down your choices
There are many pharmacy schools to pick from
and the choices can be somewhat intimidating. There are over 3,500 schools
in the U.S. alone. If you want to stay local there are probably a handful
of accredited schools in your area.
The internet can be useful to track down the school
of your choice. Sites like collegeboard.com or aacp.org can assist you in
locating a school.
The Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS),
is a centralized application service for applicants applying to colleges
and schools of pharmacy. PharmCAS is a tool used to research and apply
to different U.S. pharmacy degree programs. You can find them on
the internet at pharmcas.org.
There seems to be a shortage of college professors at
pharmacy schools which is having an effect on the overall graduating
pharmacy students. A shortage of licensed pharmacists will mean a surplus
of jobs being offered in the field. Qualified certified technicians should
have no problem acquiring internships in many hospitals and other health
organizations.
Some schools require that you take the PCAT (Pharmacy
College Admissions Test) in order to be accepted. Be sure to inquire if
the school you are applying to requires this certification. This is
generally a state issue so it pays to check. California is one such state
where it is not required. About half of the pharmacy schools require the
PCAT. The PCAT is primarily a thinking exam. It tests basic scientific
knowledge, math skills, and verbal knowledge. The test consists of
approximately 300 multiple-choice questions, placed in five separate
sections. The exam spans three and a half hours, with one short break
given in the middle. |
