Strengthening your immune system
The immune system helps to fight off many diseases and infections that
can come our way. The following is a quick summary of possible
ways that can help place your immune system in top working order.
Basically it consists of a BALANCED lifestyle, healthy living, with the
7 daily requirements (clean air, clean water,
exercise, rest, good food, positive mental attitude, sunlight.):
- Sleep - obtain at least 8 hours of good sleep per night
- Reduce Stress -
Modify your lifestyle to reduce stress
- Exercise - regular exercise
- Diet -
Less
red meat, high in fish, fruits, and vegetables, particularly
blueberries and broccoli.

Eliminate free
radicals which can cause cell degradation. Consider, with doctors
approval, these anti-oxidants:

Vitamins C
(citrus
fruits, green peppers, cantaloupes and broccoli)

Vitamin E
(whole
grain foods and vegetable oils)

Cartenoids
-
red, yellow and orange fruits and vegetables such as carrots,
tomatoes, cantaloupes, pumpkin, etc. and leafy green food
- Iron - fortified whole grains, including cereals, breads, rice,
and pasta
- greens, including collard greens, kale, mustard greens, spinach,
and turnip greens
- Zinc - (Pumpkin seed and oysters)

magnesium (400
mg/day). Magnesium is involved in transmission of nerve impulses
within the body. Food sources are legumes, grains, dark green
vegetables, and nuts
- Selenium
- tofu
- Low fat, high nutrient diet
- Diet supplements including vitamins, minerals,
anti-oxidants, omega3 fish oil

Vegetables, including broccoli, swiss chard, asparagus, parsley,
watercress, brussel sprouts
- Stop tobacco products
- Yoga and stretching
- Positive mental attitude - Laughter and humor
- Drink 4-8 glasses of clean water per day
- Be sure you are breathing clean air and living and
working in an area with clean water, food, etc. and no harmful
contaminants
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
- Sex - Having sex might boost the immune system's IGA.
Also: establish a social support of friend system. Love and touching
might also help
- Drink Tea - 2 bags - one green, one black for a caffeinated
drink. Herbal for non-caffeinated

Moderate alcohol intake. Not none, not too much

Moderate caffeine intake

Chicken soup

Echinacea - possibly blended with Chinese herbs

Hand washing

Be wary of crowded places - especially during winter

Listening to music both live and recorded

Consider a flu shot, but as with all recommendations: check
with your doctor

Hydrotherapy / hot tub

Yogurt -
has live cultures, contains probiotics (good
bacteria in your digestive system) and can increase your body’s
immune response.
